Description: "Hover" is an original handmade block print of a Belted Kingfisher hovering over the Salish Sea, a vibrant ecosystem that includes gulls and herons. Looking at this print, you can almost hear the kingfisher's distinctive rattling call reverberating throughout the environment. When there is a color difference between males and females of a bird species, usually the males are the most colorful. However, it is the female Belted Kingfishers who have the rusty belt, while the males are just blue and white.
Great Gift: This print is perfect for anyone who loves nature, kingfishers, the Pacific Northwest, or wants to celebrate strong, colorful females.
Printmaking Process: I hand-printed each print on white 100% cotton paper (archival and acid-free) with lightfast ink. For each of the four colors, I carved out more and more of the same linoleum block by hand and then printed that color. This method is called reduction printmaking because you reduce the block as you carve more away. That means you cannot go back and print a color again. Thus, this is a limited edition of 27 prints, which I have signed by hand.
Due to the handmade nature of printmaking, there may be slight variations between individual prints, making each one a unique piece of art. In this print, sometimes I allowed coverage of an ink color to be less opaque because I liked the texture it brought to the print. Print sold alone (without mat or frame.)
Archival Mounting Option: This print can be bought on its own or mounted between a mat and foam board, ready to be inserted in a 11x14 in. or 12x16 in. frame. All mounting materials are acid-free and archival.
